Rugby union is a team ball sport played on a rectangular field with H-shaped goals.There are several variants, divided into two types: rugby union (15-a-side, seven-a-side and other variants) and rugby league (13-a-side).A team consists of 15 players, each with their own role.

The rugby pitch is a maximum of 100 x 70 metres and the game is divided into 2 x 40 minutes. A conical ball is used for the game. Players can only pass the ball sideways or backwards between themselves, and they are only allowed to kick the ball forwards. Rugby players wear sewn-in padded helmets, for example because they bump into each other during the game. However, this is only allowed on the player who is currently in possession of the ball.

There are several ways to score points in rugby. A team scores 5 points for laying or five. When a lay-up is followed by a kick that is taken from the upright, the team scores 2 points. A penalty kick that is kicked on a foul from the spot where it happened is 3 points. And if the kicking player drops the ball on the ground and kicks it to the H, it is 3 points.

There are also several leagues in rugby, in the Czech Republic the Extraliga is the highest competition, in the world we find for example the Premiership in the UK, the MLR in the USA and there is also the European Champions Cup. There is also a men's and women's World Championship every fourth year. Other top competitions include the Six Nations Cup and the Rugby Championship.
